When will HomeKit secure video support 2k or 4k video?

I was hoping that the new Apple homekit upgrade would allow support for 2k video but alas…no. Anyone have any idea if and when Apple HomeKit secure video will support 2k video. I have Eufy 2k cameras that I bought specifically to use with HomeKit as I have a 2T iCloud plan— only to discover the video quality throttled at 1080. I reverted back to just using the Eufy native app as otherwise the video is heavily pixelated even when person at front door is relatively close. Sort of defeats the point of a security camera if I can’t ID the person. I can’t believe there isn’t more of an uproar on the forums and Apple hasn’t addressed this yet.

The quality of my HomeKit Secure Video is currently terrible. When I compare my Nest cam clips at 1080p side by side with my HomeKit Secure Video clips for my 1080p Homekit Secure Video Camera the quality difference is staggering. Both cameras side by side pointing at the same garden. The Google Nest video clips at 1080p are high definition. You can read logos, see faces clearly and see good quality deep into the image. The HomeKit secure video footage however looks like VHS tape footage. Faces are pixelated and there would be no hope of reading a numberplate. Looks horribly pixelated and compressed and not 1080p quality like the Nest.

Hoping we have an improvement to this compression / pixelation of the video streams / recordings asap.

Agree, it’s a reason to not use it. I bought a test camera to see if I would swap out my Amazon Blink system. Love how it’s supposed to work, but downgrading the video is a non-starter. My new Tapo camera is going back to Amazon. Seems like this would be an easy SW fix. Apple must not want to eat into their too high margins by enabling higher quality and customer satisfaction. Corporate greed is all they know

I get that 2k can be a lot of data. Especially to save on their servers. Especially because it doesn’t count towards the iCloud storage. I’d have 2 solutions 1) 2k upgrade and use your cloud storage 2) add a HomeKit nas that lets your store it on site. At that point you could probably do 4k support also.

When will HomeKit secure video support 2k or 4k video?
