iCloud connection error

When trying to login to Apple iCloud on a Windows11 laptop, via Edge, I receive the error "Connection Error - iCloud encountered an error while trying to connect to the server." This problem only surfaced today, and does not occur on other devices, including iPhone and other computers (Windows10, via Bing...).

I've tried suggestions from previous users with this problem, such as waiting until later, restarting, using a different browser, and nothing seems to work. (Reboot in Safe mode does not appear to be an option in Win11 - only offers recovery opts like full reset [oh no!], restart from recovery disc or drive, etc.) Oddly enough, I can access iCloud email via Outlook or WinMail. Help!

I was having this issue on a Windows PC. This video's solution is the only thing that worked for me. In case the video doesn't work for you:

  1. Type ncpa.cpl into your Windows search bar. Click on the resulting "Control panel item" which should bring you to this screen:
  2. Whatever your active network adapter is (wireless card, ethernet adapter), right click it, click Properties, then uncheck IPv6 setting, like below. Note: if you're plugged into ethernet and your wireless card is connected, you want to change this setting on whichever connection is active. Typically the ethernet will be active if both ethernet and wireless card are connected.
  3. Try icloud.com again.

I'm not a tech expert, but this seems to suggest Apple has a configuration issue they need to change.

Greetings Derbogen,

We understand that you're experiencing an issue when trying to login to iCloud on your Windows computer. Often times, security software created by companies other than Apple, may prevent iCloud for Windows or iTunes from connecting to Apple servers or to devices. The following resource may be able to help correct this behavior:

Resolve issues between iCloud for Windows or iTunes and third-party security software

We hope this helps.

Take care
