Music volume max when opening camera

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max

It's on iOS 16.6

When I open the camera app, if music is playing the volume will go to max. If I have my Airpods in, it will start blasting the sound. Even if I don't have music playing and I open the camera app, the small volume control will pop up on the screen and it will be at max volume. I've tried all the different fix attempts I could find online but nothing works.

Shortcuts! That worked! I went to the Shortcuts App. There is a Tab at the bottom called Automation. I clicked this tab and there were two "automations". One to set the volume when the camera is opened and one to set the volume when the camera is closed. I don't know how they got there but I deleted them and now the Camera app opens and closes without the volume being changed.

I'm typing this here in case it can help someone else out.

Thank you very much for the assistance!

Hey AppleRobit,

That's good to know, and definitely an odd issue. Since this is only happening with opening or switching to the Camera app, check to make sure you're not using a shortcut that could be causing this to happen. Here's more information on shortcuts, just in case:

Intro to Shortcuts on iPhone and iPad - Apple Support

Run app shortcuts on iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If that doesn't help, let us know a bit more to continue narrowing this down:

  • Since menu options and features can vary, which software version shows in Settings > General > About?
  • Other than quitting the apps and relaunching them, have you fully restarted your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

Let us know what you find.

Take care!

Hello AppleRobit,

If you haven't already done so, let's use the steps below to force close the Camera app:

1. From the Home Screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle of the screen.
2. Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close.
3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close the app.

You can also find those steps in this resource: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support Force closing an app can sometimes help address odd behaviors.

Should that still persist, does this occur every time you launch the Camera app, or does this only occur sometimes?

Do you experience the same behavior when using other apps that utilize your cameras?

Let us know, and we'll keep moving forward based on those details.

I force closed the Camera app and that didn't fix the issue. As suggested, I've launched other apps that use the camera and the volume slider doesn't appear. It's only with the iPhone native Camera app. Also, going back to the home screen from the camera app, the volume animation pops up again, but when it does, the volume is back down to the lowest setting.
