can i synchronize an ios OS X 10.9.5 device (macbook air 2014) with my iphone xr ios 16.0?

wow, that is a very old macOS! The 2014 MacBook Air is compatible with Big Sur so there is no reason to stay on Mavericks, update to Big Sur instead and you will face no problems connecting your iPhone. Also, update your iPhone to the latest version (16.6) as well for important security updates
