Blinking file with question mark

2015 MacBook Air. When I put it on it shows a blinking file with question mark. Then I push command R and it'll show a padlock for a passcode I forgot it. What do I do

Hi there -

If you see a lock icon, this indicates that your Mac is using a firmware password. If you can't remember your firmware password, schedule an in-person service appointment with an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Bring your Mac to the appointment, and bring your original receipt or invoice as proof of purchase.
