HUGE THANK YOU to Grant Bennet-Alder

I would like to take some time out to thank Grant Bennet-Alder for his top top knowledge, support and understanding in helping me fix my old Mac Pro!

Without his support, I would never had got my Mac pro up and running again, and more importantly, so cheaply as well.

Thank you so much Grant Bennet-Alder!

So appreciated,

Ian

There is an Internal setting, in Energy Saver preferences called "restart after power fail".

Also, when you drop AC POWER to your Mac, you force the tiny Long-life Lithium non-recharging coin cell (half-hidden behind the graphics card) to work all night, keeping the system parameters and the clock chip alive. One of these days, your Mac Pro will just sit there, as if dead, because that tiny battery got too low.

Be sure you are choosing Shut down off the Apple menu to close down your Mac for the night. Dropping its AC power has some long-term implications.

When I did replace the graphics card I tested the small lithium battery and it was good as flat. That probably explains why I get a clock not set properly alert.

I will purchase a replacement.

And yes, when every I shut down the Mac, I was quit all applications, clear all cookies etc etc, and choose shut down from the Apple menu.

A great habit to have.

Just looked up....

"Can BR2032 be replaced with CR2032?"

BR2032and CR2032 are not exactly interchangeable. BR2032 has a very low discharge rate per year and can last up to 7 years. However, BR2032 maintains a constant voltage (3) for quite some time and the degrades rapidly when failing. The CR2032 has a more gradual degradation in voltage over time.

Hey Grant, wanted to say howdy and thank you for your comments to the forum. Been trying to send this message a couple months now, reactivating an apple account takes time. I'm restoring/resurrecting several Power Mac G3 AIOs and they are newer than the machines I normally work with. Been relying on Google for info and very often the answer or insight I settle for came from you. Been pretty funny; I read a reasonable reply that I'm going to go with, look to see who is the author and there you are. Thanks again. Pat Brennan (Butterfield era)

I think the original battery was a BR2032. That has a very wide temperature range, but is hard-to-find.

CR2032 is used in car key fobs and garage door opener controls and many other portable controls, and is readily available for reasonable prices.

MORE that 3.0 Volts when new, LESS that 3.0 volt is considered used-up, and the voltage "falls off a cliff" as they become used up.

HUGE THANK YOU to Grant Bennet-Alder
