Mac Mini 2012 software update

Hi all

I'm setting up my old Mac Mini for my son to use, its running OS X Version 10.9.5 the processor is 2.5 Ghz I5 and Memory is 4GB.

It doesn't give me the option to update the software and also wont load things like safari.

Do you know if this device can be updated so it can be used for light day to day use..?

Sorry I'm not a expert in computers as you can probably tell :)

A Late 2012 Mac mini can run up to macOS 10.15 Catalina.

Follow the instructions at > Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

If that doesn't help, see > How to download and install macOS - Apple Support

try upgrading to High Sierra first and then Catalina.

Remember that once you go beyond macOS 10.14 "Mojave," all older (32-bit) apps will stop working.

If any cannot be updated you must buy new versions. This free tool will help you check for which apps stop running under 10.15 and which can be updated:
