The Macworld site has some good pages with useful information. I have linked to some on occasion here without issues. The Macworld site also has some pages with information that isn’t necessarily in line with Apple’s policies. Notably speculation and discussing beta software is frowned upon here. In the end, this forum is Apple’s property, and they can moderate how they think is best (E1, E2). And in principle moderation decisions can’t be challenged here. You agreed to that by using this site.

Try to include links to Apple Support pages if possible. Those are never objectionable when relevant.

Understood , thanks for the advice .

Every one of us who has been here for more that a short period of time has had posts removed. I'm usually very irked at first but, in the grand scheme of things, it's not worth getting too upset about. I've had posts removed for posting links to things Apple deemed inappropriate. I've had posts removed for writing things Apple deemed inappropriate. As long as you don't make a habit of it, it's not going to be a big problem. I think where people get into trouble is when they keep reposting things that Apple removed because they are bound and determined to have their say. That way lies madness.

I agree with Urquhart1244, try to stick to Apple links. When it's not possible and you're considering using something from a third-party site, ask yourself why. Is it because they're saying something Apple hasn't said? If so, best avoided. If it's because they have a simpler set of instructions for some particular thing, and it's not a site that primarily sells software, it's probably fine. Sometimes, I can't find a set of step-by-step instructions in Apple's support documents and can't quite write it out myself. Just double-check what sort of ads you see on the page.

Anne,

I totally concur with Idris' counsel. I've had posts redacted that were boilerplates awarded "recommended" in other threads. Definitely head-scratchers.

Other than my lousy typing, I am a bit of a perfectionist and I can get briefly browned-off by a deletion of what I considered a "perfect" response. However, I've learned not to let it diminish my desire to help.

Please don't fret over it. These forums are an imperfect sub-set of an imperfect world, so just roll on. You're doing fine here.

Yes! Both of those things have happened to me.

On the other hand, I'm glad they've given us back the ability to report ourselves. I posted a very wrong answer not too long ago, reported it and "poof!".
