Found a damaged but bootable iCloud Locked Apple Mac Book Air 13" 2022 how can I get it back to the rightful owner? In Hawaii at a hotel.

Found it on Facebook, seller told me it was found at a hotel awhile back and was damaged (Bent) but still powers up. I gave her $100 cash to get it from her to see if I could find the legal owner. Apparently she tried reseting it and it's locked on the iCloud page. Is there any way to trace the owner by the serial number. It was under Apple care until Nov 10th 2023.

The answer to that question is no. Its serial number alone is not useful, unless whoever lost it posted a lost equipment report using any number of services that offer to reunite lost items with their owners.

If someone loses a Mac, he or she should follow these instructions: If your Mac is lost or stolen - Apple Support. That's all anyone can do, and if its owner is not sufficiently motivated to find it there is little if anything you can do to help.

Thanks for the reply. Local police are not very helpful, I'll contact them, I've had numerous car break ins and even a name and picture of a local bike thief that stole my wife's $2,300 E-Bike by cutting a heavy chain with a battery powered grinder in front of shoppers at the local mall. They didn't do squat. Thank you for your service.
