Can I change the way my HomeKey works?

I have the Schlage Homekey lock. It's great EXCEPT for one thing. When the lock is unlocked, and I arrive home expecting it to be locked because it IS locked 90% of the time, I touch my iPhone or watch to the lock thinking I'm unlocking it, but instead it locks the lock. Then I try the door, find it locked, and have to go through the process again.

This makes no sense to me. I can't envision EVER wanting to lock the lock using one of my devices as I'm leaving home. It's much simpler and faster to touch the lock button on the keypad.

I'm hoping that there is a setting somewhere that I can set the phone to ONLY unlock... NEVER lock the lock, but I can't find it anywhere.

Am I out of luck? If so, what is the thinking behind setting it up this way? It truly makes no sense to me.
