Different password required for screensaver??

Having an odd problem with a newly purchased used cheesegrater Mac running 14.2 OS. When I cold-boot the computer I have no problem entering my password and bringing up the system. But if I leave it on long enough for the screensaver to kick in, it presents me with a screen that has a pic of an eagle, the word "Apple" as the user, and a password field for which my regular password doesn't work. The only way I can get back in is with a power cycle.

How do I fix this annoyance? Thanks in advance!

There is no primary administrative user. There are only Administrative Users and ordinary (non-Admin) users. are you quite certain you are an Admin user?

I don't understand why you should be seeing different user-id in that screensaver, unless it it an aftermarket product not MacOS itself that is putting that up. In macOS, that feature is controlled form:

System preferences > Security&Privacy > General

Thanks, I'm a little confused tho - I am able to sign in on power-up using my own ID and PW. This problem only occurs if i allow the screensaver to appear. Don't I, as the primary administrative user, have the ability to remove the "Apple" user?

I don't want to have to erase everything that's on the system as per the link above, there are many useful utilities and programs the previous owner installed and that were part of the purchase price.
