Late 2017 iMac Pro VS iMac 2020

Hey there! New to this platform, but have been using Apple products as long as I can remember. The problem is, I need help because I don’t speak fluent technology so I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I am looking at 2 systems that I have come to a dead end looking to go right or left. I cannot get back to working because of physical health so I am on a budget, but I am doing the best I can. Both of the models listed below are the ones I need the tie breaker on. What does everyone think? Please don’t come at me like I’m dumb I just have these two items that fit the mold of what I need so …. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thanks!

I just had a MacBook I got back in 2013. I do photography as a hobby, I have an extensive music library (also have a cloud hard drive) & I do Cricut work. Also just some paperwork reporting for our Fire Company.

FWIW, Mac mini Apple silicon (2020, 2023) would be more than sufficient for those tasks, with a future likely better than any Intel, and with a price undoubtedly comparable with those Intel Macs, and with rather better performance per Geekbench:

iMac Pro: 1380 / 8578

iMac: 1686 / 6951

Mac mini 2020 8C: 2415 / 8823

you do not need the compute power of the iMac Pro, nor its Error-Correcting Code RAM memory just to edit photographs, unless you are doing magazine covers and calendars.

what sort of costs do these listed Macs have?

in what ways EXACTLY is your current Mac falling short of your requirements? not enough compute power? not enough RAM, not enough drive space? something else?

macOS can use iPhone as a camera, there are displays available with cameras, and add-on cameras are available.

Older displays can work depending on the connection, as can TVs via HDMI, all depending on the desired resolution.

An iMac cannot be used as a display for any Mac 2020 and later, as that occasionally arises in these discussions.

I just had a MacBook I got back in 2013. I do photography as a hobby, I have an extensive music library (also have a cloud hard drive) & I do Cricut work. Also just some paperwork reporting for our Fire Company. Really just looking for the best bang for my buck in my price range. I was leaning more towards the pro, but in some other forums they kept talking about its age. But does it really matter? Is the 2020 model better because of its age? With my 3rd spine surgery now, going back to normal life is not really in the cards currently 🤦🏻‍♀️ what do you think if you were to choose, I just want good performance, storage & the potential to go for the long haul
