Mac Pro very slow connection with Synology NAS.

A customer has a power Mac with very slow connection with Synology NAS. Save project to local nvme takes 2sec. Save to NAS takes 2min.

When checking the connection I found that LAN and WiFi both were active. After disconnecting WiFi, the connection was fast. Saving project took only 3sec.

can anyone explain why this is?

packets going toward the Internet are sent to the TOPMOST, Working interface in the list at

system preferences > networks

I expect that also means packets that CAN be routed locally will preferentially go along the same medium.

to adjust that, use the gear icon below the list of interfaces, select "set service order" and drag Ethernet TOPMOST. if the Ethernet cable is ever not plugged in, it will default down the list to the next working interface, typically Wi-Fi.
