Hi, thanks but that is not the answer, I am way past that.
Firstly I use a 6 digit PIN to log into both the Mac and the PC, that obviously does not work.
Secondly I have the original old password (ending in 2016) recorded in SafeNotes, that does not work either.
Thirdly you will note that the "Network Credentials" password has 16 digits, I have never had a 16 digit password for anything, and yes the number of dots always correlates to the number of characters/digits.
So far I have reset the password for both machines, checked all the sharing settings, created a Credential for the Mac in the PC, etc. etc. etc. Nothing seen in Keychain of any use.
Three things to Note: firstly the Mac now asks for my name and the pin at login (probably just a setting), and then I get a message pop up "Problem connecting to the server "texxxsi5" (the PC). I also get the "Finish changing password" message (for last 6 months) which no one seems to have solved.
And I would point out this just started out of the blue, everything was kosher for the last couple of years.
Interestingly Goodsync was happily backing up files from the PC to the Mac (even though I couldn't access the machine) until two days ago, now it declares the name or password is incorrect!
I was recently able to access the PC from the Mac, now I can't access either way.
I am in a home environment and I am admin on both machines, unfortunately computers seem to be made so secure now that you can no longer use them!
Having said all that I may have just found the issue, it appears that the "Master password" is different to the Login password in the Mac!! Now the issue is I have no idea what it is.
I have just run the Cmd+R and done a reset of the master password, and it has allowed me to change the password in "Network Credentials", and it looks like it stuck this time.
Reboot and I still get "server unavailable" connecting to PC!
I give up.
