Best New Mac for FCP

I plan on replacing my iMac i7 with a new machine next month. Typical files are 5 gig in Sony 4K XAVCS format using 4.2.2 10 bit shot in log. I keep all video finals on an external SSD. Excluding Mac Studio machines, everything I read suggests keeping away from the M3. The best machine seems to be Mac Pro 16 inch, M2, 12/30 core, 32 gig ram running at 200 gig per second bandwidth. As my finished movies are over 50 gig in FCP editing I need a fast machine. I am keen to get an opinion from the community please. Thanks, Mike

Dunno about “new” Macs, but I tend to agree with you about not looking at the new M3 Macs… as they are not upgradeable at all… perhaps a 2019-2020 Mac Pro might be more along the lines of what you’re looking for… of course, I don’t know your budget eg, how much you’re able to spend for a replacement Mac of any kind…

Just as you pay a premium for the latest and greatest M3 with only modest improvement over previous model machines, you also pay dearly for the battery capability and the lovely display built into the MacBook Pro.

If you do not REQUIRE portability, your dollars go farther with a desktop Mac and the displays YOU choose.

with lots of I/O going on, you will need a Mac with lots of ports to connect devices, both displays and drives.
