spinning beachball when trying to print pdfs

Hi,

Mid-2010 MacPro running Mojave. Intermittently, when trying to print PDF's from either Acrobat Reader, Acrobat, or Wondershare PDF Element, I get a spinning beachball that requires force quit. Sometimes, I can fix this by restarting, but it sometimes takes more than 1 restart. I can't see anything obviously wrong and am able to print from Word.

Suggestions appreciated for diagnostic maneuvers or fixes.
