How do I create a single file list on Mac Pro?

I'm looking for a file list maker for my Mac that allows me to compile a list of all files (approximately 200) into a single file.

On my old Windows PC I'd open a Command prompt and run a command to list all the files in a folder and redirect the output to a text file, e.g. the following command would list all the files in the directory with just the file names ( the /b option gives 'bare' file names only and >file list.txt puts the list into a text file called file list.txt). dir /b > filelist.txt I can't find anything in Terminal commands that would replicate this

Creat new file How is it possible that on a MacBook Pro, the operating system doesn't easily allow the direct creation of files from the desktop or a new folder? Instead, one must resort to complex scripts for this task.

you want just the names of the files?

Create a view of a directory in Finder, and put it in the order you like.

Select the subset of files you want, or all

Copy

Open a new TextEdit document

Paste

your list of names of files appears in the textedit document.
