After installing icloud all files disappeared

when installing icloud on windows 10 drive D:\Documents\iCloudDrive (this is not system drive) all my files on drive D:\ disappeared. Only the iCloud Drive folder remained. And the disk is completely empty, it shows that 780 GB of 781 GB are free on the disk. But when I want to copy something to this disk, it says that there is not enough memory, only 6 GB is free. It somehow backed up all my files or something, I don't know. I don't understand the mechanics of this program and I really don't know how to get all my files back, which is about 500 GB. Perhaps someone has encountered this problem and understands the mechanics of iCloud, I will be very grateful for help.
