mac mouse moves but doesn't click: 32 GB, Sonoma, 14.5 Powerbook

my mouse stops interacting with the screen finder and applications randomly. Manage to use my keyboard to cycle through open programs to save what might not have been. Once all closed I restart, and then the mouse interacts normally for a while until the process repeats
