Ive been a MacBook Pro user for some years, but used iMacs prior to that. I’m considering going back to a non-laptop option and I’m looking at the Mac Pro. Is it true that they are upgradable after purchase?
If I were to purchase a Mac Pro with the M2 Ultra, could it be upgraded to the M4 ultra when/if that upgrade occurs in 2025?

The M2 Ultra Mac Pro has slots for installing PCIe cards, but it does not support
It's a very different animal from the 2019 Intel Mac Pro, whose focus was on supporting beefy graphics cards and supporting extremely large amounts of RAM (up to 1.5 TB).
Some have compared it to "a M.2 Mac Studio with PCIe slots."

No that is not true.
You might be able to upgrade that model's internal storage, but it would not save you any money.
The processor is the least likley part to be upgradeable.
Note that unless you have very high-end needs (e.g., heavy video editing all day, every day for a living), a M2 Max Mac Studio is likely to be a better value than a M2 Ultra Mac Studio or M2 Ultra Mac Pro.
I definitely require high end specs, beyond 64 g unified specs. Heavy 3D modeling, rendering engines, videos, and more. I ended up sticking with a MBP and ordered one with M3 Max and 128 unified memory. Hopefully I’ll get 3-4 years out of it.
