What if, like a fool, I called the number provided. I disconnected before there was even an answer. How bad did I mess up?

I will be reporting the phishing text immediately of course.

I keep these people on the line as possible. I kept one going an hour last week. I figure every minute they're talking to me is less time they have to scam someone else. My mom was plagued by these people when she was alive so I have no mercy for them.

Love it!

There were 16 pages in the thread when you added your post (17 now), ALL explaining that the message you got was Not from Apple, it was a SCAM.

Please, please read at least some of the thread you are about to post to; usually it will make posting unnecessary.

This is a user-to-user forum. No one here charged you account for anything. If you received a phishing message that looks like the examples given in this thread, it is likely no on charged your account. Unless of course, you clicked on a link and gave out your personal information.

Hey y’all, it is march 6th 2025. I received this msg twice in one week. Still going around I see. The exact same msg down to the dollar amount. I knew it was scam.

With inevitable text edits and ever-varying contact info, this and similar scams will be going for years, if not decades.

Ever-varying AI-generated scam text will undoubtedly become more common for ever-better scamming, too.

“They” is actually thousands of low paid workers, some of then essentially slaves, in other countries (Myanmar is a major source of phishing and other scams) that send out millions of texts, email, phone calls and other ways to try to find suckers who they can fleece. And it continues because it is highly profitable; it is estimated that scams such as this brought in 12.5 billion dollars last year.

Would not surprise me. In the previous message, that link was to the actual Apple Billing page to try and prove legitimacy, but of course the charge would not be found and the confused user who received the message would then call that provided number for an explanation and fearing they would still be charged if they did not call.

I received this same text above this morning what precautions do I need to do?

All you need to do is delete it. You can report it if you wish, but the sender is spoofed so blocking is not very successful. The only time you would need to take additional action is if you called the number and provided any information.
