how to increase ring time

We are elderly and can not answer when it is only a 15 second ring (4 rings) The carrier is Virgin but they seem be incapable of changing the ring times. They haven’t even said that they don’t know how to use Apple products so Apple should be responsible for changing the ring times. Apple says no it is up to the carrier. What to do now?

iPhone 15 Plus, iOS 18

It is an issue with your cell company. They control how many seconds your phone rings before it goes to Voicemail. They also control your voicemail, it is not actually being recorded on your device. The setting for the ring time will be dependent on the IMEI number of the device and the setting is not stored on the SIM card. Putting your SIM card in another device where the IMEI number is different is not a troubleshooting step.

Call your cell provider again from the phone you want changed. The max they can do is 25 seconds. You need to specify the seconds, the number of rings makes no difference as each ring tone has their own length and the number will vary. If the ring is 5 seconds long, then you will get 5 rings before the voicemail picks up. Here is another Virgin Media support site where it also makes it clear that they have to adjust the ring time and there are many requests to have it done, so this is something they are very familiar with.

If whoever you talked to told you this was an Apple problem, they didn't know what they were talking about. What kind of phone you have is irrelevant to this question. You need to contact Virgin and tell them you need them to extend the ringing time (Carriers don't do it by number of rings). It's not necessary to even mention to them that you have an iPhone.

Note that some carriers will not change the time before the call goes to voicemail. But, again, that has nothing to do with whether or not your phone is an iPhone.

Also, this is an old post in Virgin's forums (and it may be the wrong country?) but it might be helpful:
