iOS18 & Carplay Issues - Person I Call Can't Hear Me

Hi

I updated to ios18 and now have a problem with my carplay. I always plug in so wired. All working totally fine until the software update. Now the person on the other end can't hear me when I'm hooked up in the car. All looks to be the same, I can hear everything, I can dial out on the touch screen etc but they just can't hear me. I've tried 3 different people. All ok if I try just through my phone - no car.

I have tried a reboot of the phone, no change. I will try removing the car from the carplay on the phone and re-adding it see if that works later today on my break at work but wondered if anybody else has the same issue?

Same issue here, I thought apple will fix in 18.1 but they didn’t, we need to escalate this problem.

I drive a 2018 Lexus Nx 300. Have the same issue. Tried using a different cable, restarted the phone, deleted carplay and paired again. No luck. Mine and my wife’s iPhone were working fine until the iOS 18 update. Now I have to yell in my car for the other person on the line to hear me. Hopefully Apple will fix this in their next update.

Calls are working fine when connected through Bluetooth.

I am having the same issue and I've tried everything. One thing that is weird for me is that people with Verizon can hear me, but my friends with AT&T cannot hear me. I also have AT&T. Also, when I connect via bluetooth and make calls that way (not using carplay) people can hear me just fine. I drive a 2019 Lexus NX300.

I have the same problem with my 2019 Lexus NX300. I took my car to Lexus yesterday, 1-8-2025, and they are aware of the issue. I was told it is not working on some of their models but they do not have a fix at this moment, nor do they know if Lexus will do anything.

Had a very very long case open with apple. Ended up going up to a senior technician and they needed more info, mostly device logs and timestamp of when it happened. So I did a call to Roger’s, I’m on Roger’s, and same issue. Low voice on other end. Had the apple person call me back, and we then processed to send logs from phone to apple. They can enable a link under the privacy in settings that sends diagnostic to apple. Sent with a couple pictures and the senior tech will have a look.

at first they would punt me to Roger’s. it I did that already and Roger’s gave me a case number. I told the apple employee I had a case number and they continued with the call.

I also took the car to the dealership and they reset the DCM, looked behind the dash to ensure no wiring is loose and they also looked for a firmware update, which there was none.

From my experience, it’s an iOS 18 issues. It does not happen on My iPhone X on iOS 16.

It only happens with calls between same carrier through apple carplay.

I have had an open case with a senior technician at Apple who keeps sharing my issues with engineers since October 2024 (or whenever the update came out). I have had no luck. I don’t know what else to do or who else to contact. I recently highlighted to the senior technician that it is obviously a same carrier situation that triggers this issue on Apple CarPlay (and not my Bluetooth) . I’m assuming the sr tech has escalated this (again) to “the engineers” but who knows. Maybe if more people call Apple this will get them to move.

If you do call tech support, make sure you get an agent who takes you seriously. I’ve never had this issue before the update and I remember they originally tried to brush me off as this being a service issue. The original senior technician I spoke to spoke to me like I was some sort of idiot and could not issue spot, implying that if I’m driving I could have bad service as the reason why this was happening even though I identified a clear pattern of occurrence.

I've been referred to a tech person above the normal front line support person, but I haven't had that extra hour in my life to pick this problem up again for several days (and that's what each of the three earlier phone calls took). I'm going to try again in a day or two and report. . . . .

But for me, everything works well—all the microphone issues are fine EXCEPT on the outgoing sound in CarPlay when both sending and receiving service providers are the same. Bluetooth is fine—this fix with the communications model is for a car/system-wide microphone problem.

Hopefully Apple will do something. This issue is happening since the beginning of iOS 18. Seems like it’s independent of the car model or the specific cell service provider, it happens when both sides are with the same provider (probably it does not happen to everyone, but it definitely happens to me).
