apple watch deleting text messages from my phone after downloading WatchOS 11

Follow up: I was on the phone with Apple Support, who escalated my call. We did a lot of screen sharing, apple recording/mirroring of the phone/watch and diagnostic logs. They have the recording of the actual issue happening and the logs and will be sending to engineering for further review. They said they will reach back out next Monday (I have a call scheduled with them) to discuss next steps. Hoping that maybe now that they have actual recordings of it disappearing from my phone when I'm deleting from my watch, they can look at the logs and create a fix!! I'll keep you posted!!

I’m having the same problem I have an iPhone 14 and ever since those to updates it’s been an issue I receive text both on my watch and phone I don’t want to keep them on my watch so I delete them I could do that before without it deleting them from my phone but then the updates happened and messed everything up I wish they would get it fixed I don’t want to keep having to go to my deleted text on my phone to recover the messages I deleted from my iwatch but wanted to keep on my phones this is aggravating and what’s up with all the updates anyway :-(

I just called Apple about this issue myself. After trying to troubleshoot it, it was determined that they could not fix this issue that it was somehow a feature embedded in the iOS 18 upgrade. I was told to go to apple.com/feedback choose the iMessage option and fill out the form there. I have done this - and the more people that do this the more chance we can get this fixed with an iOS update eventually.

Same here. I can't get an answer on how to stop this from happening from Apple support. My messages on my phone aren't on the cloud, so I don't understand why it would be deleting from my phone. I tried to stop mirroring my phone on my watch, but that didn't solve it either.

People have been complaining for years that deleting a message on an iPhone didn't delete in the Watch and vice versa. It appears that Apple has finally made message deletion involving the watch consistent with all the other devices.

Also, it appears that the period key on your keyboard is malfunctioning. You might want to get that looked at.

Now when you go to recover text on your phone after you delete them on your watch, they go back on your watch. VERY Frustrating. This needs to be fixed, big time.

Yes, that's the way it works now.

This problem needs to be addressed by Apple and Fix !!! ASAP

I suspect this was a deliberate change on Apple's part as people have been asking for this for years.

@Woobie51, I don't have text message forwarding turned on, so that can't be what is causing it. Thank you for the information. I think they just don't know what is causing it.

As a follow up, Apple missed calling me back about the ticket. I was advised there was an update but twice the callback time was missed. Now a new twist, if I recover the messages that I deleted on my phone, they recover it on my watch as well. My phone messages are not connected to the cloud, so I am unsure why it would "sync" the response on the watch.

I am having the same problem after my iWatch SE was updated to IOS 18.01. Every message I have deleted from my iWatch has delegated my texts on my iPhone 11 Pro Max which has delegated fit is I never saved. I’m so disappointed because I was able to deleat messages on the iWatch but kept my iPhone message! I’m so mad. It’s insane. This problem needs to be addressed by Apple and Fix !!! ASAP
