Need to stop autopay to Microsoft on my Apple Card-no access to the xbox account.

I am paying a monthly xbox subscription for my adult daughter. Unfortunately our relationship has changed and she won’t cooperate on cancelling this. I am using my Apple card.

I am considering changing my card number but am reading about automatic updating systems that will update the card number.

What is the best way to get this autopay cancelled without access to the merchant account?

The virtual number that you can change and is also the one you shared with your daughter, would be the place to start. If the subscription doesn’t stop, there is little you can do beyond that other than closing the account.

Merchants can pay additional fees to the Payment Network Operator (Visa, MasterCard etc.) for updated information when it changes. It’s complicated after that. The bank can’t force the PNO to remove the service. The monthly charge is likely an annual subscription, which is a legal contract. Microsoft is paying a fee for additional services to protect their payments.

Closing the account is really the only way t guarantee the billing stops. Goldman Sachs will allow you to reapply in 30 days. The closed account cannot be linked to the new account. Download all account documents before closing or you’ll lose access to them forever. Good luck.
