Launch.switchboard is "on" in my Login Items. A quick web search says "Control multiple remote machines from one application with Switchboard." The only remote machines I have are an iphone, mac Studio, and this MacBook.
Why should I not de-activate it from background apps?

Eventually I just turned if off from "login items" in settings. It was probably a fossil from years ago that kept getting brought forward to each new computer.

that should be fine if it doesn’t come back. What normally happens is you runt he app that loaded it, and it looks and sees that it is “broken“ and tries to fix it by reinstalling the background item.
You need to uninstall the app you installed which loads the background item.
I don't know what app that might be. Apparently you've found it. Look up how to uninstall it.
