Only 2 reason why that would happen:

  • You redeemed it already
  • You were scammed at the store where you bought it and the retailer failed to protect your purchase.

Never purchase any Gift Cards when a retailer displays them on a rack where they allow anyone to tamper with them. Retailers know of the scam where people will remove the cards and peel the sticker to write down the code. After that they replace the sticker with a new one that can be purchased on Amazon and then just needs to wait for you to activate it. It is ironic that those same stores will lock up products that can be stolen from them, but could care less about their customers losing money, allowing them to be scammed in their own store. Only purchase Gift Cards where they are secured behind a counter. I would also complain to the store that allowed it to happen. Here is the link that Apple provides that also includes support, by there is little Apple can do to force retailers to protect their customers.
