Apple Watch not pausing pace on a run

Hello, I’ve been for a few runs this week and it’s been the first time my watch has done this. I pause my watch when on a run to walk, usually my average and rolling pace does not change when walking. But this week they both still update when being paused. Does anyone have any advice on how to stop my pace updating when walking? Thank you!
