Accessibility read text function doesn’t work after 18.1 update. (I have eye issues and need read function.)
After I highlight text, select and choose “read” on menu, I am thrown out of document. What’s up? Why is this not functioning?

Hi Tom, (btw, i just noticed “funtion” is really cool).…yes, in order:
settings, accessibility, spoken content, speak selection (not screen).
This is happening with anything. On email, Safari, documents. (The “read” function on the upper left corner of documents where “reader view” is available works perfectly.)
Very strange. When I touch the “read” after selection, and thrown back on my screen. (I don’t mean locked screen; I’m out of the text, document, whatever.)
I suppose I can drop a text to Apple Care if this seems too weird. It should be pretty straightforward.

You keep saying "read". Don't you mean "speak"? Or have I not understood your problem correctly?
What are your settings in Spoken Content below the Speak Selection button? (Highlight Content, Default Language, Detect Languages, Speaking Rate, etc) Post a screen shot of that settings page if easier.
What app are you using when this happens?
Hi Tom, I’m not using an app. I’m just following the directions for the accessible reading text. It used to work. For any text. ?? 🤷🏼

Do you see this happen when text is displayed in all of Safari, Mail, messages, notes,pages?
