New M4 Mac Mini Questions
I'm going to replace my trusty iMac 27" (late 2012) with a new M4 Mac Mini and a Studio Display. My current iMac has a 1TB internal HD with 595 GB available. It contains the system files, user accounts and some documents. Also attached to the iMac via a hub are two G-Drive 4 TB HD's. One contains only the Time Machine Back Up of my entire iMac System. That drive has 975 GB available. The other external HD is a G-Drive USB-C drive which contains only my Photos and Music. This drive has 2.65 TB available. My questions are:
- When I migrate to the new Mac Mini, will I require 2 keyboards, one to control the iMac and the other to control the Mac Mini? I was hoping not to have to buy another keyboard, and use the keyboard that I've been using with my iMac.
- Will I be able to migrate only the OS, system files, and user accounts to the new Mac Mini from either the old iMac or from a Time Machine Backup? Which is the preferred method? Is a direct connection preferred over WI-FI. I read somewhere that WI-FI was not reliable for migrating.
- Can I directly connect both of my external HD's to the Mac Mini. I'm confused as to what ports are on the iMac. The technical reports say the iMac has two Thunderbolt Ports and 4 USB-3 Ports. I'm not sure what cables or hubs I would need to connect these external HD's, if it's possible.
I also use iCloud for my Photos, the Desktop, and Document folders and I think once I set up the Mac Mini, these files should sync correctly as they do now with my iMac and the external HD's. Is that correct.
The new Mac Mini is coming next week and I'm trying to anticipate the problems I might encounter is migrating and setting up the new system.
Thank you reading this long question(s) and for any help
Yours,
Ed
