SATA HD connection won't show up on my iMac

I'm trying to transfer information from my old Apple 21.5 2013(late) imac to my new SSD HD via SATA to SSD HD (Sabrent) but it doesn't show up on the screen when connected. The light on the SATA unit goes on, but its not showing up. What am I doing wrong?

Is this the adaptor you're using:

It's a Sabrent adaptor.

I have several bare SSDs connected to my 2017 iMac by USB ➙ SATA adaptors and they run without a problem.

I get approx. 500MB/s read and write with my EHDs. In a case it can be up to 4x faster depending on the chip in the case.

It your SSD connected directly to the Mac?

Have you tried it with another Mac to see if it is seen by the Mac?

If you intend to run from that EHD on another Mac, i.e. hosting files and opening them from the drive, you'll get considerably faster response if you put it in an enclosure like rkarufmann87 suggested.
