Apple Store Malaysia denying my request to service my Apple Watch battery.

Hello, I’ve been using my Apple Watch Series 7, 45mm well for 3 years now. I’m considering upgrading to the new Series 10.

I was thinking of handing my current S7 down to my younger sister. But before that, I’d like to service the battery as its health is in the ~70% range.

Made a booking through the support app, and when I got to Apple Store The Exchange TRX, they said they do not do battery replacements for AW out of warranty and I’m stumped. I got chatting with the support app and I told them what happened and they made another appointment with them.

When I got there, again they claimed that Apple does not service batteries for AW. They told me to do 3rd party, and I’d rather not. So what gives?

What they told you is nonsense. Apple most certainly will still provide service for the battery in the Apple Watch Series 7 including in Malaysia. I don't know if any Apple Store actually replaces the battery or if they just replace the Watch, but service is certainly available. Apple will even tell you the price:

While I know it's a headache, I'd advise calling Apple Support again, tell them that the Apple Store is refusing support for your Watch, and arrange to mail it in or ask them if they can contact the Apple Store and get this sorted out for you. Or go back to the Apple Store and ask to speak with the store manager and discuss this with him/her, referencing the webpage I linked to above.

Good luck.

Hello and greetings. Sorry for the late reply. But I wanted to add a couple of details I just remembered for more context.

  1. They mentioned that they will only serve AWs under AC+ coverage. I did not take, plus it’s been 3 years. So it would have expired anyway.
  2. Even then, they will serve only if there is no wear or damage on the AW. Which they didn’t even offer to take a look at. But my watch does have one small surface scratch at the top of the screen, I do not know if that even matters - I just want to replace the battery.

Also, why are these so called Apple Genius’ (first time dealing with them) so uppity? Are they all trained to be this way? FFS, get off your high horse.

Third party repair agencies, such as The Exchange TRX, have the right to refuse warranty service, but they make very little. However, they make a lot of money replacing the battery themselves. Apple will do it, but you need to try a corporate Apple Retail Store (Apple owned and operated). Can Apple recommend another Apple Authorized Repair agency in Mtaylasia?
