iTunes freezing and locking up on Windows 11

I must restart my computer in order to open iTunes and get in unfrozen. I believe this problem started after an update in got from Windows 11. I have seen others who have posted about a similar problem. Can Apple investigate this with Microsoft and try to get a fix. I certainly don't buy nearly as many songs since it's such a pain in the *** to have to reboot my pc every time I do. Anybody know a possible solution.

Thanks

I do not experience a full Windows lockup, just iTunes freezing completely so that I have to use Task Manager to kill the process and restart the app. My system and iTunes are fully updated. When the problem started, I was using only the built-in anti-virus/security. The bad behavior did not change after I installed Bitdefender. I have not tried to make a purchase since the problem started but I am an Apple Music subscriber and am frustrated that I have to restart the app regularly when I am listening.

I have, to date, not been keeping methodical notes, hoping that another update would come along and fix things. My informal impression is that the lockups are random-seeming, sometimes happening after a playlist ends, sometimes when I switch from search results to a playlist in my library, sometimes when I switch between an Apple playlist and one of my own.

I am a public servant and cannot afford Apple hardware, so I cannot try that 'workaround.' I very much hope that the coders will be permitted to address this problem soon. Also, I'm not very familiar with the Apple website--if anyone knows a better place to report a problem like this, please type up.

I'm having this issue, as well. And have been for a few months. It started in early October and happens on both my Win 11 laptop with an Intel chip, and my Win 11 with and AMD chip. All updates are installed. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, from both the Windows App Store, AND directly from Apple. I've tried restarting in Safe Mode to see if that will clear anything out. No joy. And then, for some reason, it will work the next day and continue to work for a while.

My desktop just did a Windows update last night and the iTunes "freeze glitch" started happening immediately after, when the iTunes had been working correctly for about a week before the update. This is the only program to hang up like this for me, right now.

I don't believe that this is a Win 11 issue, as I've had the same on Win 10. Pretty sure it's related to the new iTunes version (12.13.4.4), which I understand does additional security checks on the file system. I've tried all the usual remediative steps (Run as admin, safe mode, repair, re-install, etc., etc.) and no go. Opens up fine to the Library, but as soon as I select either, For You, Browse, or Store, it locks up tight, end task in Task Manager etc. Thought it might be a Bonjour issue (loads or errors in the logs), but I think it's definitely an issue with iTunes. Ran fine for the best part of a decade, but now loads of complaints about hanging, freezing. They (Apple) need to fix this...

Thanks Mike, while it doesn't solve the problem it's good to have some confirmation that the freeze glitch is definitely in Windows 11. Fortunately, when my pc freezes up and I restart it opens and works ok for a while. I notice that if I slow my actions down real slow the freeze doesn't happen as easily. But as soon as I try to purchase a song it immediately freezes. I believe there have been others that mentioned this problem and I wonder why Apple hasn't worked with Microsoft to correct this. I also noticed that the problems seemed to get a little worse after the last two recent updates. If anyone from Apple is reading this stuff would you please address it with Microsoft? If it doesn't get any better in the coming month of so I'll definitely stop using iTunes and stop purchasing my music here. I'll follow up with you Mike if things change or if I learn something new or useful.

Thank you for this feedback. Not being highly trained in the technology end of things I wasn't aware of these other possibilities. I agree then that Apple needs to address this. Not only are the constant freeze ups frustrating, I also have noticed frequent small moments of interference in the playback of music. If you know of how I can put pressure on Apple to do something about this, please let me know.
