Apple devices NOT CHARGING using a non MANUFACTURED CABLE FROM APPLE (When cable is rotated, it does then charge). WHY DO YOU HAVE TO ROTATE THE CABLE?))

I purchased a charging cable(none Apple) where the end of the cable that connects to your Apple device remains connected, you simply remove the cable which is magnetically connected and also has a swivle so at the end of the cable is not at right angles. When you need to change another device you simply take the cable away then disconnect the end of the cable remains inserted into the charging port. I thought I would not get the error message where it says that the cable is connected but not charging! I charge my iPad to 100% and then at the cable after sometime when I needed to recharge my iPad Pro I simply reconnect the cable thinking it would simply connect and charge. I cannot understand why I then got the message saying it was but the iPad Pro was not being charged. I simply do not understand where the end remain connected in the iPad Pro and after reconnecting the power cable I got the error message I should not need to remove the end rotate and put it back in, when I had not changed and it would then need to be removed and rotated when it privacy charged my iPad Pro. Why am I getting this message. Is this Apple merely controlling what you can connect to it devices as it must be an Apple cable where you can charge astronomic prices for a long cable and not use other manufacturers? . When I connected the cable I did not get the error message saying the iPad Pro was not charging has anybody at this situation? I cannot believe I’m the only one who gets this message when a non-Apple manufactured charging cable, it seems that Apple are controlling what cables you use are not receiving this message. I have discovered it that it’s just not matter which device you’re using from Apple for example we have two iPhones 15,’s and an iPad Pro 12.9, another iPad 12.9 iPad and a iPad mimi, they all do the same thing with the cable so something is going on Apple sensing you’re not using an Apple manufacture accessory( charging cable)

Sounds like you just have a bad cable. There are many different brands that will work fine and there are also some that are just poor quality and will fail.

If the original power adapter for your device isn't available, you can also charge iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or iPod with “Made for iPhone” or other third-party cables and power adapters that are compliant with applicable country regulations and international and regional safety standards.

I have previously and am currently using third-party USB-C to Lightning, USB-A to Lightning, and USB-C cables, some of those angled magnetic connectors, and Apple and multiple third-party USB-A and USB-C chargers, and numerous examples have and do work and do charge.

As has been the experience of many other folks around here, as well.

Usual causes: Bad cable, debris in a socket somewhere, or bad iPhone.

Maybe bad power too, as some USB-A and particularly USB-C chargers can have faults.

Just to make sure I understand. This cable is which of the following:

  1. USB-C on one end and Lightning on the other?
  2. USB-C on one end and split with two connectors on the other end; one being USB-C and the other being Lightning?

It would help if you can provide us with either an image or a link to this cable so we can see exactly what you have.

AFAIK, Apple only states that they recommend that you only use cables that are either MFi-certified or have the "Use with iPhone" labels. I can't verify, whether or not, this is an Apple marketing ploy.

...so I’d like you to work that one out if you don’t believe Apple are doing something wrong because it seems as if they are.

We are not Apple employees here, so we are not going to "work that out" for you. We are just fellow Apple-product users trying to help others with their Apple devices. We also have no way do duplicate what your are experiencing if we don't even know what exact cable you have.

Since you didn't "accept" my answer, I'll drop off and let others offer their assistance. Good luck!

The cable or connector is seemingly faulty, given the connections are incorrect or intermittent.

Contact the seller for information for support for your purchase.

Request a replacement or a refund if they can’t get this to work.

I’ve worked with a few third-party magnetic-coupled cable connectors, and they have worked reasonably well. Biggest issue was the indwelling connector was difficult to extract when a case was used.

Rotating the cable would indicate that not all pins of the cable are active. That is, this cable may be used for charging only and not for both charging and data transfers. This would be typical of cables only meant for charging. They must be orientated properly to work. This is a typical issue with "cheap" cables.

If your Apple devices are really worth it to you, don't use cheap cables. Make sure the charging cables you use are, at least, MFi-certified.

You see that same cable for sale on Amazon under many different labels. It is a poor quality cable from China and you can see the same results that you have experienced across many different platforms by reading the reviews. Pay particular attention to the 3 star or less ratings as many of the 5 star reviews can be bought by the seller. Stick with any good quality cable whether it is from a reputable third party or Apple and you will not have a problem.

So tell me very quiet all of a sudden tell me some it’s wrong you say it doesn’t make sense rotating the cable makes the cable connected it stays in the device I charge it then when you reconnect the cable magnetically it says it will charge but you have to rotate the end again. It seems just because it’s not made by Apple it wants the inconvenience you and as I stated you’ve gone very quiet all of a sudden, so what do you say about that and by the way to state that cable could be even brand-new as a ridiculous “are you trying to tell me that when you buy an apple, it could be faulty also. it’s a way of Apple being an inconvenience.

I'm sorry but I really don't 'understand that post. Could you possibly rephrase it without the run-on sentences?

Thank you for your reply, this is not the first time I get this message. The cables I purchased a brand-new and not faulty. They charge anything else I connect to with no issues and no error messages as I stated this is not the first time I have ever received this message from an Apple device, whether it’s my iPad Pro or my iPhone. It’s the same on my husband‘s iPhone and his iPad and it’s not made from Apple and you connected to charge it.

If this arises with multiple cables from various vendors. It’s also possible that there might be debris lodged in the iPhone connector socket, or the iPhone itself might faulty.

But for isolated cases, the usual cause is a faulty cable.

I’m afraid I did not accept your answer, I bought a cable which connects to my Apple devices. It has a “C”) connection and what I called the old iPhone connection, both mobiles use the C connection, and I had to rotate both connections on each mobile! It also occurs with the old iPhone connection, I get approximately three or four connections(adapters) which then remain connected to those Apple devices the cable magnetically connected to that adapter it also swivels and you can re-angle so that the wire does not stick straight out of the device, the cables aren’t cheap. I would understand if these were cheap cables, but they are not they are braided. The main reason is Apple do not manufacture three meter charging/transfer cable however it is not specifically for the transfer as I do not do that specifically for charging all of the devices worked perfectly fine. It is just the Apple devices that have the error message again I simply put Apple are trying to remove competition by having this error pop up when I’m not using Apple manufacturers accessories on the new iPhones there are no pins to lineup and when connected they state that they are connected and charging charged and I removed the cable only the adapter remains in place therefore removing the issue that just other debris may get in the way as the connection is still being made by the adapter, when the device needs to be recharged I simply connect the cable to the adapter via magnetic connection which is simply designed for! It is strange that it is this time I get the error message when it says the cable is connected, but it’s not charging if I then remove the adapter turn it around plug it back in it then it’s reconnected and it’s now charging. I do not understand how that occurs unless Apple or obviously detecting is not an Apple device that’s manufactured by them hence the MM message the cable I am purchased approximately four days ago came straight out of the rapper and came straight to the iPhone. No problem after thought it was fully charged, I just connected the cable adaptive remain in place as this is the whole point of it when my phone needs recharging I expected it just to connect and get the normal message however I didn’t I got phone connected not charging. I remove the adapter turned it round reconnected and then got the message that the iPhone was connected and is charging so I’d like you to work that one out if you don’t believe Apple are doing something wrong because it seems as if they are.
