On my iMac I am getting a recurring popup message that reads: "Critical Failure; Data Loss Imminent". What should I do?

If so, then it's just a scam.
Start by post a screenshot of this message.
I followed instructions I found on the Malware data site you referenced and turnoff an unfamiliar website in Notifications Then I went to the Safari browser Settings//Notifications and removed it there as well. Problem solved
