Command S booting failed to access code

I need to get into the text/code using command S booting. I have only a few seconds of this screen before it goes back into normal booting mode. What do I hit to get past this screen and get the computer code text?

See if you can access the User Diagnostics to test your Mac

Offhand I would say you have a GPU issue with the red screen and the striped center area. This means the Logic Board is bad since the GPU is integrated into the Logic Board. The 15" models tended to have a lot of GPU issues over the years...usually with particular models, but those issues could be seen in other models to a lesser extent.

FYI, you already appear to be booting into Single User Mode (Command + S) or Verbose Mode (Command + V). If you have Filevault enabled, then you only get that screen for a short bit before being presented with a graphical login to unlock Filevault. Afterwards both Single User Mode & Verbose Mode boot options revert to displaying the startup boot log screens (Verbose Mode eventually transitions back to GUI mode at some point).
