Cannot open Apple Podcast using Siri - Accept New Privacy Agreement

I recently updated to the iPhone 16 Pro and the latest version of iOS. There have been several rough transition points with notifications not appearing for migrated apps that has caused problems with Siri and CarPlay.

Most recently, I kept getting blocked from opening Apple Podcasts via Siri. The message I would receive indicated that I needed to agree to the latest privacy statement. However, there was no place within Siri’s settings or the Apple Podcasts app about privacy statement.

I’ve found a few people who have mentioned the same issue, but nobody found a definitive solution. I dug around and believe that I’ve figured it out and wanted to pass it along.

TLDR; the Apple Podcasts app does *not* issue a privacy notification, but it will not open via Siri if the privacy notification in the Apple Music app hasn’t been accepted.

This was especially confusing in my case as I haven’t used the Apple Music app in years and have had it uninstalled for the last three phones I’ve owned. To get past this issue I had to re-download the Apple Music app, open it and walk through the various terms and agreement prompts that it presented. Once I did that, Siri would open Podcasts just fine. Even deleting the Apple Music app again, Siri would launch Podcasts again.

Hope this helps others figure this out.

Cheers.
