Safari 17.6 disconnects certain websites under Sonoma but not under Monterrey

This is a sequel to a previous discussion titled "How can I prevent Safari from logging out of TOPdesk after Sonoma Upgrade?", which has been deemed inactive.

I have two MacBook Air's: an old one under Monterrey 12.7.6, a newer one under Sonoma 14.6.1. On both, Safari's version is 17.6.

On the newer one, Safari disconnects certain websites after a certain time of inactivity. This does not happen on the older one. Having to reconnect every time is inconvenient and annoying.

Since it is the same version of Safari, I can only conclude that it is a matter of OS system and not of Safari itself, so it is useless to try and fix this problem by looking into Safari's settings (which I did).

Does someone have a clue on what to do?

Keep your Mac up to date

Set your Mac to check for software updates automatically

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click General  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click Software Update on the right.
  3. To set update options, click the Info button  for Automatic updates, then do any of the following:
    • To have your Mac check for updates automatically, turn on “Check for updates.”
    • To have your Mac download updates without asking, turn on “Download new updates when available.”
    • To have your Mac install macOS updates automatically, turn on “Install macOS updates.”
    • To have your Mac install application updates from the App Store automatically, turn on “Install application updates from the App Store.”
    • To have your Mac install system files and Rapid Security Responses automatically, turn on “Install Security Responses and system files.”
  1. Click Done.

To receive the latest updates automatically, it’s recommended that you turn on “Check for updates,” “Download new updates when available,” and “Install Security Responses and system files.”

Note: MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air must have the power adapter plugged in to automatically download updates.

In each topic Safari disconnects some Web sites after a certain time while it did not under other OS's.

Problems with a Web Site using Safari ?

Third Party Web Site Hosting by a Third Party Web Site Developer ?

That clearly falls  Out-Side of the Domain of Apple and belongs solely with the Third Party Service or Third Party WebSite Developers

How to contact an app developers

Thank you for the update ( no pun intended "

Have to ask.

Does this Auto Log Out, after a period of time of In Activity occur, only happen on TOPdesk website ?

Does the same thing happen on, say a Governmental website, Banking website, Credit Card website, the Apple Support Community website

Any of the above mentioned websites, are usually pretty secure, and will Auto Log Out the user after an unspecified period of time

Hello,

-> I don't know what TOPdesk is.

-> Of course it does. This is normal. I am talking of other websites.

I clearly delineated the problem in my first message. Please take it into account.

No it does not, since it happens under certain OS and not under others (see again my first message).

But you have worked a lot today and must be very tired. I thank you for your enlightening answers. Meanwhile I have found a way around this problem: use Chrome instead of Safari.

Have a wonderful day.
