2017 iMac is too slow

Hand-me-down work computer, freshly wiped before I got it, runs very slow. Beachballing, 30 min startup times, pages and applications load slowly, etc. Even delays when typing and clicking the mouse. I ran DriveDx and it passed all checks with 0 issues. I also put it through EtreCheck and am hoping someone can tell me what I need to do.

Opps. Missed the low contrast Etrecheck Report link in your original post. I agree with rkaufmann87 on the potential solution.

Since it's an intel iMac you can clone your current boot drive to an external SSD with Carbon Copy Cloner. This user tip describes how to clone: Using Carbon Copy Cloner to Make a Bootable Clone of Intel Mac

I would recommend the Envoy FX external SSD from OWC (MacSales.com). With your iMac model it can read read and write speeds of 2800 Mbs. When you upgrade you Mac it can go along as fast external storage.

OWC is considered to be the premier 3rd party supplier of hardware for the Mac.

Use an external SSD, also the computer is obsolete (meaning it cannot run current versions of Mac OS) and Apple has classed it as Vintage meaning parts are not available and they will not work on it.

How to setup an external SSD as your startup disk

Use the following external SSD https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/owc-mercury-elite-pro-mini/usb-c and the following SSD https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/SP4P1T1MA10K/.

To confirm that there are no 3rd party apps that might be the cause of the poor performance please download and run Etrecheck.  The free version is sufficient.
