Can I connect two MacBook Pro laptops to one external monitor?

Hello. I would like to connect both my work MacBook Pro and my personal MacBook Pro to my external monitor (ASUS PA249) - is that possible?

Is there a special connection/hub of some kind, or would I have to move the monitor cord from one MacBook to the other whenever I want to switch between the two? Right now I have the ASUS plugged directly into my work laptop using an HDMI cord.

Also, if I am able to have both laptops plugged in at once, would I be able to keep one of the laptops closed (on a shelf in my monitor stand) or would having it always on and closed be an issue?

Thanks!

That would be up to the abilities of that display, and from the specs I don't see anything to indicate that it can accept inputs from two different computers and be able to switch between them. You can contact ASUS support and ask, though. If you want to avoid switching cables, you may need to get an HDMI switch.

Regards.
