Why are the landscape templates so large in Apple Pages?

I've tried to use the large landscape book templates the Pages offers, but they just don't fit any standard size paper. When printing, Pages shows the size of the document at 14.22 in x 10.67 inches. This does not reconcile with any standard page sizes, whether European or American. When I print this as a 8.5 x 11, which the standard ANSI Letter size, the aspect ratio of the template does the not fit the paper. The aspect ratio is wrong and I end up with extra unwanted white space. So I tuned to the internet for an answer and found the following:

A page that is 14.22 in x 10.67 is the print size of a 768 x 1024 pixel tablet portrait interstitial ad. The ad has a 3:4 aspect ratio, and is typically displayed in JPG, PNG, or GIF formats. This is used to display ads on a tablet as full screen.

This is what Safari AI came up for popup ads with during my search:

A 1024x768 ad is a full-page, interactive ad that appears in landscape mode on a tablet. It's usually loaded between content, so the user only sees the content after closing the ad. A close button must be clearly visible in the upper right corner of the ad.

Depending on the browser viewport size, Google Ads may display different sized ads:

  • Viewport >= 1024x768: 750x200 or 728x90 ads may be displayed
  • 1024x768 > viewport >= 640x480: 300x250 ads may be displayed
  • Viewport < 640x480: No ads will be displayed

Other common banner ad sizes include:

  • 300 x 250: Also known as the Medium Rectangle, MRec, Mid Page Unit, and MPU
  • 468 x 60: Popularized during the low-resolution browsing era
  • 320 x 50: A popular choice for mobile devices

So my conclusion is that the book templates Pages offers would likely be fine if you intend to publish your document as a PDF, for example, and have the reader view it on computer, pad or iPhone.

I never inferred that Pages was a web page publisher. I simply stated that I could save the Pages document as a PDF file to read on a computer, iPad or iPhone. Pages can export documents as PDF, EPUB, or JPEG images. However, these file types can be used within web pages as a stand alone documents for a user to download and view on their digital device.
