How do I enable this type of Monitoring.

I swear but I used to be able to do this before but after the last couple updates it reset something and is now throwing me for a loop. All I wanna do is be able to have that ability to play on a track that already has something recorded while another track is providing playback, and it seems I cannot do that anymore it mutes the current region I'm on and I can only hear the my monitored guitar then when I enable the R I can hear the track but can't hear myself. Can someone help me with this? I have enable software. monitoring as focus monitoring "as in GarageBand" Also know I can't play back my song while the monitor is on, I'm sure it's all the same thing but I thought I'd mention.
