Doesn't the camera app support external microphones??

I have an external USB-C microphone like this one:

And the only app where they don't work is in the default iOS camera app.

• Using the voice recorder app, they work perfectly.
• Using a third party camera app like FiLMiC Pro, they work perfectly.

BUT if I open the iOS camera app and start recording a video, I can't hear anything. The application does not capture the audio neither from the internal microphone nor from the USB-C ones. obviously if I disconnect them the camera records video with sound as usual.

- iPhone 16 PRO

- iOS 18

- Yes, I have enabled microphone access permission on the camera app, obviously.

Why does Apple on the Keynote advertise how good video recording is on iphone, even give you the example of recording a movie and sell it as an important feature on your device, if they are not going to allow usb-c external microphones on the default camera app?
