Can I store a specific amount of emails without deleting old ones in my Mail app?

My emails were not searching in the search bar so I decided to rebuild my email address (apple email address).

When I hit rebuild, all my emails were deleted (about 20'000 emails) and it is now rebuilding and adding 80'000 emails. I have found emails there from year 2006!

Is there any way to tell Mac emails to only store a certain amount of emails in my mail application? Without deleting old emails?
