Since I can’t see my password should I set up a recovery key just in case the one I try doesn’t work? I’m not positive I remember it.

I just want to know if I really need a recovery key or not? Should I set one up just in case?

If you set a recovery key you need to remember that you are then 100% responsible for keeping track of it. Apple won't be able to help you recover your account without it. Recovery and security keys are really there for the more experienced user who really need a higher level of security. It is more secure but also carries responsibility most people don't need or want.
