Homekit cannot accept invitation IOS 18
Hi everyone,
I recently helped some family members transfer their iPhones to new devices, but unfortunately, HomeKit (v18.1.1) was completely wiped out during the process. They’re now unable to accept the home invitation, even though everything worked perfectly before the switch.
I’ve spent hours with Apple Support, submitted multiple logs, and followed their instructions—including removing an inactive VPN they claimed was showing up (even though it wasn’t active). After proving the VPN is gone, there’s still no fix. I’ve also tried suggestions like resetting profiles on the receiving phones, but nothing has worked.
Apple engineers admitted this is a common issue affecting many people and have escalated it to senior support, but there’s no ETA for a resolution—it might be addressed in a future update. I also asked about a backup option since resetting would wipe all my scenes, automations, and more. Unfortunately, they directed me to request a new feature for HomeKit. I understand that Third-party apps can’t perform full backups (like automations with shortcuts) due to Apple’s restrictions.
Has anyone else experienced this and found a way to resolve it?
