Duplicate Contacts on MacBook Pro but not in iCloud

My MacBook Pro – 2019, 16-inch with Sequoia 15.1.1 – shows duplicate contacts in the address book, but the information on iCloud and my iPhone is correct, with only one entry.

When testing merging duplicates, both entries are deleted.

I tried removing iCloud from the MacBook and reinstalling it, but the duplicate entries persist.

I only have one address book selected in the address book – the one for iCloud – and no addresses are stored on the hard drive.

Any suggestions on how to get this fixed where I only see one entry per person?
