How can I permanently delete work info in iTunes?

Previous suggestions have not worked for me.

I wish to delete all content in the "work" column of my 200k item iTunes.

Years ago this column was helpful in grouping collections.

Now its a useless appendage to me and often gets in the way of syncing to other devices.

'Command I' gives me access to the title/work name option.

However, when I "clear" the work name the database defaults to song title (which is great)

but the previous, now useless grouping, remains in the "work" column.

And the "work name" option is never really gone.

It shows up randomly, and consequently, I am presuming it is never really deleted.

What am I doing wrong? Or can this big be fixed?
