Help! ProRes HQ 6K files acting weird on my new MacBook M4 Max

Hey everyone,

I'm new to MacBooks (just got mine a week ago), and I'm running into some weird issues with my workflow.

I'm shooting on a Fujifilm X-H2S in ProRes HQ, 24fps, 6K, and when I import the files to my MacBook, things go wrong:

1. The playback freezes halfway through. It usually freezes after 15 seconds of video. The video keeps playing in QuickTime Player, but with no image or sound.

(QuickTime and Davinci)

2. When I try to edit the files in DaVinci Resolve, I get a red "media offline" screen after the middle of the video.

Here's what l've tried so far:

  • Installed Pro Video Formats 2.3.2.
  • Tested different video players like VLC, but the issue persists.
  • Verified the files on a Windows PC and directly on the camera -it worked perfectly there.
  • I've used different cables, it doesn't seem to be corrupting the files, apparently there's no problem with the file.
  • I tried emptying the render cache on DaVinci and that didn't work either.

My system is up to date, Davinci resolve it too.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? Is there a setting or step I'm missing as a new Mac user?

Thanks in advance!

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.2

Is there a downloadable sample movie that has this issue somewhere?

Some users have had trouble with Chrome and its Keystone background processes that might consume resources in video work. Below are instructions how to remove them and test if that is really the case.
