Intermittent iMessage Issues with Specific Contacts

Having intermittent issue sending spouse iMessage, it bounces back as sms, sends as sms, or sends as iMessage but looks like a group chat using the nickname I’ve had in iPhone since original iPhone and her real name. Also tried to send to email, I’ve changed name, removed email addresses, reset network settings, turned iMessage and FaceTime on and off, restarted phone multiple times. I don’t want to delete our message stream as we have too many pictures and links shared that I don’t want to lose🤷🏼‍♂️. Any ideas??

Is the address in the iCloud or on your device? Try using the opposite of what you have been using, if it’s on phone, set up on iCloud (just one account), or if it’s on the phone switch just one to iCloud and use a different name/format for contact.

You should back up images to a USB device as well. Copy images would be good as well as a Icloud backup. Does she have an iPhone or Android? I’ve had somewhat similar issues, plus many more.

I lost all images and backups following a compromise.

Also, with email, look at emails that have been rejected and compare to accepted emails. Look at the IP address from the sender in both. My email was compromised with 2 3rd party programs, they were supposed to to help organize email. But I did not purchase either one. Look at the emails carefully, in my case, it would say “Message sent by [third party]”. Look on the App Store and take a look at these programs (email organizers). It’s also possible to create rules inside of most email programs. For example, rules I’ve seen say something like “if this email is from xxxxx.mail.com, move to trash, archive, reject and so on.

search on Internet on “viewing and understanding email headers”. Once you know the senders IP address, you can (likely) better identify the culprit. However, if it’s an internal rule, and not a third party program, it will either show your email providers info, or the rejected senders IP, the second one could provide some insight. You generally have to use a computer to see this additional information vid iPhone or iPad.

depending on your specific situation, it could be many things. Back up your email and anything you want to keep!

im really surprised that you are getting SMS messages after changing the address? I’ve posted a couple of things regarding a somewhat similar situation, check those out as well by searches of my ID.
